But how did D.S. Durga perfumes come into being? It all started with a passion for cowboys, open country, characters from Russian novels, folk songs and the incredible variety of smells that these settings have to offer, but that's not all: D.S. Durga fragrances also encapsulate all the experiences of the two founders of the house, David Moltz and Kavi Ahuja Moltz (aka Durga). David's story begins in a beautiful New England town in the middle of the woods with an ocean view, but continues in New York, where he decides to move in 2002 for a job. It was here that his love affair with perfume began: after studying architecture in Los Angeles and then design in Holland, he returned to the Big Apple where he met Kavi, his future wife, business partner and head of the artistic and design side of the brand. Thanks to Kavi, David will also find the inspiration to combine unexpected smells, exploring his wife's Indian roots.
All D.S. Durga perfumes are born of exploration, research, experimentation: in fact, this is exactly how David developed his olfactory sensibilities by playing with perfume! But also by reading old herbalist books, buying precious and non-precious essential oils, in short by exploring the world of odours in all its facets. All this experience has meant that every D.S. Durga fragrance is conceived and constructed by D.S. without intermediaries or interpretation by an external perfumer. The packaging and presentation of all the fragrances is entrusted to Kavi, which carries an important message precisely through the study of product presentation: opening the packaging establishes the relationship between user and fragrance. All D.S.Durga boxes, therefore, are designed from recyclable paper and the formulas are 100% vegan. For the past few years, the D.S. Durga line has also included a wide selection of scented luxury candles, very similar to their fragrances in terms of DNA. With Durga candles, Durga wanted to break new ground in the exploration of scent, to transform any environment into an unforgettable olfactory stimulus.
